And when practiced together, the results can be life-changing.
So it’s no surprise that surf and yoga retreats are popping up around the world and Lombok (in Indonesia) is no exception. This enchanting island to the east of Bali is rapidly becoming a go-to destination for surfers and yogis who want to experience both activities in what is a paradisiacal setting.

Xanadu
Best surf and yoga retreat in Lombok
Price: Starting from 890 euros for 7 nights
With two different properties in the Kuta area, Xanadu is quickly emerging as a go-to destination for surf and yoga retreats in Lombok. It bills itself as the ultimate wellness getaway for those seeking to relax, recharge and reconnect with nature. To be honest, we have to agree.
Xanadu is all about gathering small groups of like-minded people and crafting a week they’ll never forget, both in the water and on the mat.
Xanadu Surf & Yoga Village
Located in the heart of Kuta, this is the cheaper of the two surf and yoga retreats (but you’ll by no means be roughing it). It has just six rooms, catering to a maximum of 12 guests, and offers beginner surf retreats in Lombok that run from Sunday to Sunday each week.
You can opt to share with another traveller or splurge on a private room. Either way, you’ll have access to a stunning swimming pool and be fed wholesome, healthy food at breakfast and lunch (plus some dinners).
Xanadu Boutique Retreat
At the higher end is the Xanadu Boutique Retreat, which is located on a hillside offering incredible views of Kuta Bay.
Not only are the rooms a little plusher at this luxury surf retreat in Lombok, but there’s a stunning infinity pool, a full-service spa and a yoga shala with incredible ocean vistas. Oh, and did we mention there’s an ice bath (if you’re into that kind of thing).
Mealtimes here are also a little more luxe, with plenty of seafood options. While it’s hard to drag yourself away from the retreat, there are regular shuttles into Kuta provided for dining out at night.
No matter which one you pick, the daily schedule includes not only surf sessions and yoga classes but also surf theory and video analysis sessions. When the sun dips below the horizon, you can join an evening meditation class or simply relax on your private terrace.
Xanadu’s surf and yoga retreats are designed for surfers and yogis of all levels, including beginners. If you’ve already got some experience under your belt, they also offer advanced longboarding weeks focusing on cross-stepping and nose-riding.
Considering all of this, it’s easy to see why Xanadu has firmly established a reputation as one of the best surf and yoga retreats in Lombok.

Mana Eco Retreat & Yoga
Best yoga retreat in Lombok for independent surfers
Price: Starting from 642 euros for 7 nights
If having access to a diverse range of yoga classes is your priority, then Mana should be at the top of your list.
This eco-friendly yoga retreat in Lombok has made a name for its blissfully tranquil setting and the high standard of yoga it offers. Up to five classes are offered each day, plus specialised retreats, workshops and yoga teacher training throughout the year.
While there’s no on-site surf school, it’s easy to connect with one in Kuta. They will pick you up from Mana each day (ready with boards) and take you to the best spot for your ability. It’s like a build-your-own surf and yoga adventure!
When you’re not out surfing, there’s plenty of time to take advantage of the unlimited yoga included in Mana’s rates. Alternatively, you can simply laze by one of the two pools.
Accommodation at this Lombok wellness retreat caters to all budgets, from community dorms to luxurious cabanas and the newly built bungalows. There’s also a spa offering massages, scrubs and facials at really affordable rates.
Not only does Mana Eco Retreat serve up delicious vegetarian and vegan meals, but it’s walking distance to Kuta’s restaurants. Plus, there’s a cinema where you can kick back in a beanbag and fall into a post-surf/post-yoga slumber.

Roots
Best Lombok surf and yoga retreat near Gerupuk
Price: Starting from 745 euros for 7 nights
Located in the small fishing village of Gerupuk, Roots Surf and Yoga Retreat is positioned near one of Lombok’s most popular waves. Its focus is on helping guests fully realise their surfing potential in a professional, structured way.
In our opinion, Roots is one of the best beginner surf retreats in Lombok, but it’s also perfect if you’re at the intermediate level.
Please note:
Roots isn’t a party surf camp. Rather, it’s a retreat for adults who are serious about improving their surfing abilities.
While the atmosphere at Roots is certainly social, the priority is on making the most of your time in the water. This means getting plenty of rest, rather than spending late nights out on the town.
We think Roots is a great option for travellers who are mostly focused on surfing but want a bit of yoga thrown in. It’s also one of the more affordable surf and yoga retreats in Lombok if you’re travelling on a budget.
Surfaholics can opt for the “Surf” package. It includes daily surf sessions, surf theory and analysis on a big screen, plus a few recovery yoga and breathwork sessions.
The “Surf & Yoga” package is more balanced. It includes daily yoga classes (in addition to surf sessions) to fine-tune your balance and coordination.
Accommodation at this Lombok surf camp consists of five bungalows that can accommodate up to 11 guests. That being said, they only accept a maximum of seven surfers each week to keep things personalised.
While breakfasts are included in package rates, lunches can be purchased at beachside warungs after your surf sessions. Dinners are usually at one of Kuta’s globally inspired restaurants. This helps to keep package costs down, making Roots one of the cheapest surf and yoga retreats in Lombok.

Rascals
Best Lombok resort with surf and yoga
Price: Starting from 500 euros for 7 nights
While Rascals isn’t technically a surf and yoga retreat (it’s an adults-only boutique resort in Lombok), it offers everything you need to create your own.
It’s located in the middle of busy Kuta but feels like a completely different world. There are two swimming pools and 38 beautifully decorated rooms and suites set within lush grounds.
Rascals receives rave reviews for its hospitality and it really is the friendly staff that makes this place so memorable.
Not only is there a peaceful shala hosting up to three yoga classes per day, but also a full-service spa offering massages and body treatments.
Rascals collaborates with a local gym, Xeno, to offer special rates for guests. And at the hotel itself, there’s a newly-opened sauna and ice bath.
Added to that, you can book surf lessons with the in-house team at Easy Life. Honestly, what more could you want for a wellness getaway in Lombok?
When it comes to food, there’s a cafe-style eatery open throughout the day and breakfast is included in accommodation rates. Healthy lunches and dinners can be ordered from their à la carte menu. This allows you to eat whenever is fits around your surf and yoga commitments.
Ultimately, Rascals is the perfect choice if you want the flexibility to build a surf and yoga retreat in Lombok the way you want, with the lively atmosphere of a boutique resort thrown in.
Plus, you’re only paying for the activities and inclusions you really want. That might be extra yoga classes, a surf photography session or a treatment at the spa. Essentially, you can create the Lombok surf and yoga package you want!

Surf & Yoga Lombok
Best surf and yoga retreat with 2:1 student-instructor ratio
Price: Starting from 800 euros for 7 nights
If you want two daily yoga classes (in addition to your surf sessions), then this Lombok surf and yoga retreat is a winner. It’s located atop a hill, around 15 minutes’ drive from Kuta. Surf & Yoga Lombok is surrounded by some of the area’s best surf spots, including Tanjung Aan, Gerupuk and Seger.
The surf coaching here is really personalised, with a 2:1 student-instructor ratio to ensure you progress during the week.
Aptly named the Surf and Yoga Camp, this intimate property features just five spacious rooms. These include twins, doubles and triples, as well as the brand new Serenity Bungalows (twin beds).
All feature private terraces and bathrooms with open-air showers. Here, you can rinse off the salt and sand while enjoying the fresh ocean breeze.
When you’re not surfing or doing yoga, you can lounge by the infinity pool while soaking up the Lombok sunshine. It boasts panoramic views that seem to stretch on forever.
At the heart of this South Lombok surf retreat is an open-air lounge, perfect for relaxing, unwinding and connecting with your fellow surfers and yogis.
With a maximum of just 12 guests, this Lombok wellness retreat boasts a really intimate, community-oriented vibe. Yoga classes are held in a breezy rooftop shala and include vinyasa, hatha and restorative styles.
Surf theory and video analysis are included in package rates, together with surfboard insurance in case you end up with any dings.

Porter Hotel
Best hotel in Lombok offering surf and yoga classes
Price: 656 euros for 7 nights
Nestled on a hill, around 10 minutes’ drive from Kuta, is Porter Hotel. It offers sustainable surf and yoga retreats in Lombok that cater to guests of all levels.
We think Porter is perfect if you’re travelling with a non-surfer (or non-yogi) as you can book rooms independently and add on surf/yoga packages separately. The money you save can be spent on other activities around Lombok if you want a day or two away from the waves.
If you do opt for one of their surf/yoga packages, you’ll benefit from personalised surf coaching by expert instructors. These combine perfectly with daily yoga classes overlooking the ocean to promote flexibility, strength and inner peace.
Two contrasting yoga classes are offered most days, including powerful vinyasa flows and more restorative yin sessions.
After a day of surfing and yoga, you can unwind in the hotel’s chic rooms, which are decorated with natural wood, rattan furnishings and brushed gold touches. There are three different categories to choose from, depending on your budget. Additionally, there’s a dorm catering to budget-conscious travellers.
The on-site spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments, including traditional Balinese massages and body scrubs using natural ingredients. We recommend the Lulur Ritual!
Nutritious, organic meals are served at the hotel’s restaurant, with a focus on fresh, locally-caught seafood and produce from nearby farms. All up, Porter is definitely one of the best places for surf and yoga in Lombok.
What are the benefits of practicing yoga and surfing?
Practicing yoga can help surfers develop greater flexibility, core strength and stability – all important for maintaining control on the board.
The breathing techniques and mental clarity cultivated through yoga are also valuable when dealing with challenging surf conditions. They can help surfers to stay calm and focused when held underwater.
Yoga’s emphasis on living in the present moment translates well to the surfing mindset of being fully immersed in the here and now when you’re out in the water. Likewise, the time spent in nature while surfing and the blissful feeling of riding waves can enhance your overall yoga practice and state of mind.
With so much overlap in the physical and mental skills required, cross-training between surfing and yoga can help optimise performance in both disciplines. When practiced simultaneously, they can collectively promote an overall balanced, healthy and happy lifestyle. Exactly what we’re all striving for!
